LAS MAGNIFICAS – RESIDENCY PROGRAMS

EXCERPT PROGRAM, For College and Adult Audiences
This 50 minute program is hosted by the Core Ensemble, exploring the lives and times of three towering figures in Latin American cultural history: the iconic Mexican Ranchera singer Chavela Vargas, Cuban Singer Celia Cruz, “The Queen of Salsa” and Chilean Singer Violeta Parra, the Mother of Latin American Folk Music. A question and answer period with the performers will conclude the program. This program can also be presented in lecture-only form and is suitable for classes in Spanish, Latin American and Women’s Studies.

LECTURE-DEMONSTRATION FOR MUSIC CLASSES
Discussion and performance of the works of Latin American composers featured in Las Magnificas. Styles range a wide range of vernacular and concert styles, both vocal and instrumental.

MASTERCLASSES FOR ACTORS
Student performers are critiqued in a 50-90 minute workshop.

MASTERCLASSES IN CELLO, PIANO AND PERCUSSION
50-90 minute workshops for instrumental music students of all levels.

REINVENTING THE CHAMBER MUSIC ENSEMBLE
As audience demographics change and technology touches the ways in which people experience art, chamber ensembles are seeking new ways to engage audiences. Core Ensemble members discuss their vision of chamber works of the future, citing examples from their own repertoire such as Of Ebony EmbersTres Vidas and The Silken Phoenix. Discussion will center on the process of creating the new genre of chamber music theatre as well as social and cultural issues explored in each work.

THE BUSINESS OF ART
A business plan for performing artists or anyone else interested in the “nuts and bolts” of how an arts organization runs. Invaluable as a career development tool, this seminar is a must for anyone planning a profession in the performing arts or arts management. Issues such as marketing, publicity, fundraising, grant-writing, non-profit status/incorporation and board development will be discussed.

CORE ENSEMBLE SCHOOL PROGRAM, For Elementary, Middle and High School audiences
